Camden had her twice annual piano recital on saturday. she takes lessons from Itoe Honda...Ian does also, but had to miss due to scout camp (he was secretly VERY happy) i will never forget my first recital that i went to for ian. i was preparing my mom for the basic boring medley's that are so typical of these things...chopsticks, old mcdonald, etc. imagine our suprise and amazement, when ian was done performing, the rest of the students proceeded to play as if they were julliard graduates. one of them actually had turned down julliard in exchange for ucla to pursue law. we almost felt as if we needed to pay at the end. these are no slouches. these CHILDREN are playing songs that last up to 20 minutes a piece. just go onto youtube and look up "umi", a young pianist (7 tops!) that is one of her students and you will get a feel for what i'm talking about. they are all memorized and they play with such grace that they are just as fun to watch as to listen to. we laugh every year because, as i'm sure you can tell from the pictures, we are the only family of a certain descent (mildly, we are one of the ONLY white families) but in all fairness, my kids have held their own. ian sounds like a mini mozart now and i'm sure in a few more years camden will be on his tail. there is nothing better, for me, than to have music in my home. i will truly miss it when its gone.
