Jessica's "Daily Affirmation"

this is my new friend jessica. i don't have any idea who she is but it was instant love at first sight. maybe it's her cute little body and dance moves, but maybe it was her song and her enthusiasm and imagination that captured me and reminded me of elyse. who knows...but this is my new motto for this year

we survived every illness known to man and christmas.
if you live in this house and are married to glenn, than you know with this new year comes goal setting. it has never been my forte and i'm really digging in my heals this year for some reason. so after much thought i've come up with two mottos for myself.

#1 i'm ok. that's it. i'm just ok. i don't want to be more, or be better, or demand more from my kids, or ask myself to improve. i'm going to tell myself all year, that i'm ok. now hopefully with that relaxed attitude, i will be more productive. phew, glad to get that perfection off my chest.
#2 i'm going to follow jessica's wonderful example and love EVERYTHING! well, now that's ridiculous because there are just some things not worth loving (laundry being one that will never go down easy) but i will continue to "count my many blessings" when i'm feeling less than enthusiastic...even if all i can come up with is "i love my haircuts" focus, focus, focus, on all the good things that life brings. even if it is at a very fast pace.

here's to a new year.

i swear we ARE getting better. with 5 of us on medication at the same time, this is bound to blow over quick!

there couldn't be a better time to be sick, though.
this weather just speaks to my sick side...blankets, fireplace, doing NOTHING!
by the time i wake up out of this funk, it will be december...yikes.

three down...

(i cannot believe that i'm allowing this picture to be posted on the internet)
yes, between the three of us we have:
bronchitis
ear infections
pink eye
strep throat

i couldn't ask for better bed partners. out of all my kids, these two are MY twins.
they love cooking shows and anything with building.
they will watch martha stewart and actually ask questions.
they read like crazy and hate to have the tv on alllll dayyyyyy.
unlike caelum, who was my bed partner last week that just about killed me with nickelodean. so if i'm going to get sick with anyone, i choose these two.
NO OFFENSE TO MY OTHER BEAUTIFUL, WONDERFUL, AND GLORIOUS OTHERS!!
to make matters even better yesterday was my wedding anniversary.
I wasn't very good company
actually i wasn't company at all
i stayed upstairs while glenn hosted a ym party downstairs
at one point my fever was so high and my throat sooo sore,
that i grabbed the twins (who were just as bad) and said we were going to urgent care.
there was a car blocking the garage so we took glenns car
i was delighted to see that he was BELOW empty on gas.
we quickly filled up ($92!! which has NEVER happened) and got to urgent care at 8:04pm.
they closed at 8pm.
i slowly turned around and informed both children that i wouldn't be speaking to their father.
too bad i couldn't speak. period.
kind of took the wind out of my sails when i fell asleep before he even came upstairs so i couldn't inform him that i wouldn't be speaking to him.
happy anniversary honey.

Me...a muse!

dear ms. numeroff,
imagine my delight and suprise as i was reading my son your darling book and i realized that you've used me as your inspiration.
you seem to have captured my essence perfectly.

why, just this morning, i awoke and went to go brush my teeth. right there on my counter was some money (no, I don't get PAID...it's just where my husband leaves me some change!) well, you can imagine what unclaimed money on a counter top does to teenagers, so i quickly grabbed the money and went in search of my wallet. halfway there i saw a dust rag on the stairs and remembered that that project wasn't finished from yesterday. i went to the sink to get the pledge and instead, wet the cloth to wipe down the pantry door that i just passed that has seen one too many grimy fingers. i wiped until i found myself in front of the freezer and remembered that i never did clean out the inside from the time that it broke (another post, for another day) reaching under the sink, i saw the ajax (my favorite smell in the ENTIRE world) and showered both my sinks with the sweet smelling stuff. under the sink was a watering can and i remembered that i needed to water the lavendar out on my patio that never did see that wonderful rain. being outside and seeing my towel hamper, i remembered that i had a load of those babies in the dryer that were ready to come outside. on my way there, my two older boys appeared, all showered and ready for seminary and in need of lunch. opening the pantry door, i stepped on the chip bag that was never put on the shelf due to no room. needing to remedy that right away, i began to organize!

...and that is when my boys went to kiss me goodbye and it dawned on me that i never did brush my teeth!

i am both humbled and in awe that you found my little life interesting enough to write about. i've never been so honored to be portrayed in such a delightful manner.
now, if we could just discuss the meaning behind a mouse...

throw me a bone

this is one sorry face. this is one sorry face that has been on various medications for 8 days. three days last week and 5 days this week. this is one sorry face with pink eye and strep throat.

i won't show a picture of me but mine is one sorry face too. 5 other people have rotated in and out of the sick bed this week and my walls are caving in. seriously, if i sit here much longer, i will be taking a jack hammer to several walls and glenn won't be able to do a thing about it. i will call it "gaping wall syndrome".

it's what happens when my overactive, bored, tired, nurse-dutied-out (is that even a word?) brain is on overdrive. there isn't a room i wouldn't touch at this point.

the only thing making this isolation tolerable, is the million times a day this little guy tells me how wonderful i am for blowing his nose.
does it get any better?

my mother-in-law is staying with us for awhile.
before she lived with us, she always wanted to know what was happening with the kids.
she would hate to ask glenn because, well, he is a man and hates small talk and doesn't remember details, like what we had with our steak, etc. so she would always want me to give her those details.
i'm a busy woman.
some would say, "really? you can't even pick up the phone and have a conversation with your mother-in-law?"

this is carson.
he wouldn't let me take a picture of him due to the fact that his nose is broken.
this topped off a weekend of
two soccer picture appts.
two soccer games
back to school night
an eagle project
two bball games in anaheim
sharing time in primary
primary birthday cookies
fireside treats (told 15 minutes before start of fireside)
baptism interview
costco and grocery in one day (you know what i'm talking about!)
ortho
soccer practice
2nd grade homework

helen doesn't ask me anymore why i don't ever pick up the phone.

i don't say this to sound like the busiest woman on the planet. like that is some sort of prize or spot in america's top ten.
i say this to my family and friends who think that i don't care. i do...i just don't want to talk.

today's enlightening conversation

caelum: mom, i just found our your real name isn't mom.
me: really? what is it?
caelum: april
me: who told you that
caelum: no one. i just figured it out because daddy is always saying it.

well...maybe he will stop saying mom twenty million times a day, now and just call me april. gosh, i hope not.
